Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival Nairobi JKIA – Nairobi
Welcome to Kenya! After arrival our representative will transfer you to the Ibis Styles Hotel in Nairobi for overnight on bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2: Nairobi
Today an easy start. After breakfast our driver will bring you to the leafy suburbs of Karen, named after Karen Blixen, the Danish author of the colonial memoir Out of Africa; her farm occupied the land where the suburb now stands.

In this area you will visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Trust, the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in East Africa. Later on go to the nearby Giraffe Centre. This is a very unique place to see, feed, handle and even kiss the tallest animal species; giraffe. We will bring you to one of the nearby restaurants for lunch (not included). Before heading back to the hotel, we will also pass by Kazuri Beads and the pottery workshop. The hotel has a rooftop restaurant that offers nice views of Nairobi (dinner not included).

Mealplan: Breakfast only

Day 3: Nairobi – Mount Kenya Region (walk)
After breakfast you depart from Nairobi passing through the agricultural farmlands en-route to Castle Forest Lodge. The lodge is tucked away in the typical rain and bamboo forests of the slopes of Mt. Kenya. After a nice lunch, you will be accompanied by a local guide for a walking safari through the forest (duration 2-3hrs). The rest of afternoon is there to relax or to go for a swim in the pool, additionally go fishing for trout in one of the rivers, go horseback riding, hiking or simply hang around the veranda in a rocking chair.

Mealplan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 4: Ol Pejeta Conservancy
For this day we planned a day tour to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This private wildlife conservancy is safeguarding some of the most vulnerable wildlife in the world (and the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees; in a sanctuary). It also boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and in 2013 reached a population milestone of 100 black rhinos. Besides the rhino, the reserve also hosts all the other members of the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard). Go on a game drive venture out there for close encounters, and if you are lucky you might even spot the endangered African wild dogs.

Overnight at The Stables within the conservancy. Expect basic but comfortable accommodation facilities. Bathrooms are shared at the Stables. Meals provided are good, but relatively simple.

Mealplan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 5: Ol pejeta – Sabache Conservancy
Leave the conservancy with a game drive en-route and head further north. When crossing the equator, we will stop for a photo moment and short demonstration on how water spins North and South of the equator. Continue your safari to Sabache; a private wildlife reserve and conservancy owned and operated by an indigenous Samburu tribe. Start your experience with a guided hike of 2-3hrs to the plateau of Mt O’lolokwe/ Sabache. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure and mingle with the camp staff.

Sabache has traditional safari-style tented rooms with its own showers, flush toilets, running water and solar power. Expect no luxury, but more an adventurous African bush experience of ecological and cultural significance.

Mealplan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 6: Sabache (visit to Samuburu village)
Today you will enjoy a very private and personal cultural experience – and a rare opportunity – to experience the real Samburu tribe’s people. During this “day in the life of a Samburu” you have the exciting opportunity to visit a local school, the ancient traditional ceremonial caves and get to know more about traditional medicinal plants during a walk with a local elder medicine man.

Mealplan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 7: Sabache – Samburu National Reserve
Continue your safari into the adjacent Samburu National Reserve – a haven of beauty and peace in semi-arid land, rugged landscape and majestic surroundings. Lunch will be served at the camp. Later proceed for an afternoon game drive before you return to the Ashnil Samburu Camp for dinner followed by overnight.

Mealplan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 8: Samburu National Reserve
Today an early morning game drive searching for the animals that make this reserve so unique; the long-necked generuk, reticulated giraffe and grevy’s zebra. Besides the other wildlife, the Samburu National Reserve (together with its neighbouring reserves Shaba and Buffalo Springs) offers some of the most beautiful bird life in Kenya. Return to the camp for a well-earned lunch and enjoy the facilities (there is a pool!) and optional activities on offer. Later proceed for an afternoon game drive before you return to Ashnil Samburu Camp for dinner followed by overnight.

Mealplan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 9: Samburu National Reserve – Nairobi
After breakfast it is time to collect your things and prepare to continue your journey back to Nairobi (arrival late afternoon). Lunch and/or dinner not included. We will bring you to the Nairobi international airport where you may relax as you await your international flight departure.

Mealplan: Breakfast only
